Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine self-analysis experience of nursing college students.

Methods: A hermeneutic phenomenological method of van Manen was adapted. Participants of this study consisted of eight students (one the third grade, three second grade, and four first grade). There were one male student and seven female students. Data were collected from Oct. 7, 2019 to Dec. 30, 2019.

Results: Five thematic statements in this study were as follows: ¡®leaving to find the cause and reason for my present self¡¯, ¡®a childhood that served as the foundation of my life¡¯, ¡®the image of me that I don't know myself¡¯, ¡®a longing for change for my life¡¯, and ¡®being growing up for my life¡¯.

Conclusion: Based on their experience, it became a valuable time to analyze one¡¯s own in more depth than what they usually knew. Nursing students increased their positive perception of themselves and their families as much as they understood themselves. Therefore, the experience of self-analysis can be used as a tool to enhance understanding of others and to effectively utilize therapeutic relationships.
